Rafael Moreno Valle’s professional life began as an international commercial banker. He then moved into investment banking with his own firm and pursued entrepreneurial interests. His entrepreneurial career began with the purchase of a small chemical plant. Since that purchase 25 years ago, he has been involved with industrial ventures, which diversified to include a budget hotel chain, a microfinance operation and a renewable energy project.
Mr. Valle’s philanthropic activities began early in his life when he joined an organization devoted to provide legal assistance to poor first time offenders that lacked the means to hire a defense attorney. This effort has grown to become the largest and most respected Mexican institution in the field of juvenile rehab.
Seventeen years ago, he became a founding member of Fundación UNAM, which he has chaired for the last five years. Fundación UNAM currently provides financial support to 29,092 college students at the University of Mexico.
